West Virginia University?s Graphic Design Program Hosts Art.i.licious: a One Day Conference on Art Careers for High School Students

MORGANTOWN-A graduate design class at West Virginia University will be hosting ?Art.i.licious: Discover Tasty Careers in the Arts? on May 23rd, at the College of Creative Arts in Morgantown.

The WVU students have been studying design process and expanding its application to an emerging field: Service Design. Emily Frye, the project manager, says, ?Be it a poster, a website, or an event like Art.i.licious, the overall design process is the same. Statistics from organizations like the United Kingdom?s Design Council tell us that organizations that have begun to design their services have yielded greater profits.?

But the event is more than a learning experience for WVU?s students; it?s also going to be a fun-filled day of workshops and activities for guests. ?Our goal is to give high school students and their teachers a taste of the many career opportunities that lie within the visual arts. We want to broaden students? minds and inspire them to create and consider their future.? said Alisa Nance, Content Manager.

Through tours, games, interactive discussion and take-away items, Art.i.licious attendees will get to see the types of work professionals, WVU college students and their professors are cooking up every day. Students will savor this experience of getting a glimpse at what college is like, meeting other high school students from around the state, meeting professors and working artists, and getting first-hand information about what it?s like to be a professional artist!

Amber Helms, the project?s PR and Finance Manager said, ?As a class we have not only learned a lot about the field of service design, but we?ve also had the opportunity to work with great businesses like Morgantown?s Sign Factory, Centra Bank of Morgantown, Arts Monongahela, Cranston and Edwards PLLC, and the District Apartments. These businesses all helped sponsor our event!?

With nearly 200 students coming from across the state, the Art.i.licious team is expecting a successful event, and hoping that it will occur annually.
